Our Young Researchers Workshop on Rare Diseases from 24 – 26 March 2025 in Munich brought together 30 young researchers from diverse disciplines who presented their work and exchanged ideas. Prof. Rebecca Schüle and Prof. Frank Leypoldt provided an overview of the current state, challenges, and future directions in rare disease research. Bioinformatics sessions by Dr. Vicente Yépez and Dr. German Demidov were followed by a hands‑on workshop on identifying disease‑causing variants. Additional talks covered research ethics, the peer‑review process, and effective data management strategies. A panel with senior scientists allowed participants to discuss academic pressure and work‑life balance. Twelve participants also attended an extra day focused on scientific writing, rounding off a highly collaborative and inspiring event. A further scientific writing workshop for young researchers was held in April 2026.
